I’m feeling better. Not 100%, or even that close, but a lot better than Thursday and Friday.

Anyways, I’m a little scared to put this out there, because I don’t like to treat my word as insignificant. But, as of today, I’m quitting smoking. I don’t smoke much when I’m not drinking or playing poker. But, being out here, that’s too high a % of the time. We’ll see how long my cold turkey lasts. I’m not saying forever, or even putting a date on it.

If anyone wants to propose a prop bet, let me know.

I’ve got the ick. I feel like crap. I went to the Wednesday discussion group yesterday. I then played a short, but successful, session across the street at the Nugget. But, I came home because I wasn’t feeling great and was coughing, and it’s just gotten worse. I need to kick this quick to get back to the tables.

This is one (of many reasons) I need to take better care of myself generally.

So, I’ve decided to play in a few tourneys on Stars this morning. I’ll put my results up here for anyone to snicker at, and I might even post a BAHH or two.

Why are you playing tourneys, Jim? Well, I’m a 1/2 NL live player now, and I intend to grind away for many hours, but there aren’t many great games before noon, so I need to try to see where I can get some income from online. It’s all just making better decisions than my opponents, right? We’ll see.

Edit 1: LOL. 1st 4.40 180 man gone. Uneventful. Played a couple hands fast and ended up pushing 22 over a raise and call only to get called behind by AK.

Edit 2: Wow. Out of the next 4.40 180. Ran KJ into K9. I actually think I played the hand really well. So be it. I’m also about to add-on in the 8R 40k, which means I’ll be in for 5 buyins. I lost two on AQ to 66 early, double rebought, then barely chipped up, so I’ll only be sitting 6k after the break. I’ll probably throw a couple more 4.40s into the mix before the $22 40k at 9.

Edit 3: Well, I’m out of the 8R. 868/1584 so not even 50%. I thought about raising preflop, but I don’t see how I didn’t win the hand anyways. Hmmmm.

Edit 4: Out of the 3rd 4.40. Short due to weird play by Portuguese guy to my right (did you know ‘blah’ is spelled ‘bla’ in Portuguese?). Jammed 1100 in early position with JT at 50/100, and got an isolation shove from a healthy stack (2500) on the button with Q8. Huh? Meanwhile, I lost half my chips in the 22 40k with KK on an A high board when a guy shoved on the turn and I folded.

Edit 5: Out of the 22 40k. AK v. A3. I don’t know about this blogging thing. Maybe I’m famous and people are trying to get famous through me. In any case, I’m definitely noticing/feeling the beats more than if I wasn’t making an event of this morning.

Edit 6: Out of the 4th 4.40 167. Out of 4, my best finish is 82nd. I’m getting killed. This time, there were three limpers, a late postion raise (still at 10/20), and I’m on the button with J9s. Ok, I’ll see a flop. I call, the limpers call, and the flop comes J96. A bet, the pre raiser raises, and I’m all-in. Fold. Insta call with 99. Neat. 20 minute break to do laundry.

Edit 7: Back to it. 5.50 10k and a 4.40. Plan is to round this out with 11 30k at 11, 3R 50k at 11:15, and 55 100k at Noon. btw, all these guarantees are twice the norm due to the 2x promotion.

Edit 8: Out of another 4.40. KQ v. Q6??? crippled, but still 250. QJ push v. 27???? I rule.

Edit 9: Cruising in 11 30k until I shove over a raise with AK, only to get called from the sb with QK who then hits a Q. Couple hands later I’m done when I shove 88 over TT.

Edit 10: Out of 5.5 10k just short of the money when my AK couldn’t outrace QQ. Best result yet, but now 9 tourneys with not even a cash.

Edit 11: Nine tourneys and only one HH. Sorry. Nothing too interesting. But, distractions (repair guy, dogs, laundry) all done for the time being. I’m focused on these last three tourneys. I’m not giving up.

Edit 12: Out of my 6th and last 4.40 for today. Got shorter than usual, pushed KQ into minraise and call, both called, AA and I didn’t check what else. So be it. Just the end of 50/50 (above average) and 3R (getting short) left to take down.

Edit 13: Another BAHH for you. He claimed preflop misclick, but whatever. I’m still in and actually decent chips, but that pot would have been nice.

Edit 14: Out of the 3R. Got short, tripled up with AA, lost 1/7 of my stack on a move, then 1/2 88vAJ and the other half 88vAQ. Out 734 (603 paid), so 0-11 today. Still in 50/50. I’ve quadrupled through small chip ups in the last half hour and feel good to have an M just under 10 (but still close to out AND close to money). I want a big stack.

Edit 15: I’m now out of the 50/50. I cashed. I guess if you’re going to go 1-11, it’s best to cash in the biggest one. I picked up AK in late mid position, the first hand after hand-for-hand play, pushed, and USCPhildo called with AA.

So, 8 hours of basically playing online tourneys (net -83.21). 12 tourneys is a pretty small sample. I feel like I would need to probably play more (add FT tourneys probably) to really know, and get a schedule going for a couple weeks. I do feel like I was thinking more clearly late than early, although I don’t know of any mistakes I made early. I’ve never been a real studier of HH, but maybe that would be a good idea. I know it helped/helps me with TD. We’ll see.

I mentioned on the forum that I had stopped by the Series the day it opened. I went back to watch chopz, TTT, and easytiger. I almost played a satty and thought about playing some 2/5, but am kinda glad I didn’t. Hopefully, I can grow my roll enough to actually play there next year. That seems like a long way off right now, but we’ll see.

I wanted to put a big wager down on Spain to win the Euro final. The 24/7 book at South Point, however, was closed. So, my last sports wager for awhile was a little dollar on the White Sox, who came through for me the other night. Now, I won’t be betting sports until basketball starts. I lost some money this weekend when Venus and Nadal won with my new rule (since I would have bet both of them), but overall I don’t feel I have an edge in baseball and my football edge (yes, I’m still delusional enough to think I have one) is overrided by my enthusiasm. I like run-on sentences. Basketball is the nice medium, and waiting until then gives me another nice excuse to focus on poker.

I’m sure the loyal thejimsheet readers will be disappointed, but not to worry. I’ll still post a shitty pick now and then even if I’m not going to bet it.

I’m playing some really bad poker right now in the Sunday Million. It’s my second time in this event, and both times I have played like dead money. We’ll see if I can turn it around, and if I do, if it’s enough to get to the money.

EDIT: Wow. That was quick. Out with 55. I played it wrong. Surprise.

Well, I played my first “official” session last night. It was a quick one. Won a few hands, and then when the other bigstack at the table left, I decided to leave as well. I was planning to head to another room (was at Excalibur), but ended up coming on home. Nice to lock up a win first time out.
