I’ve had some interesting hands the last couple days, but here’s the best.
I’m under the gun with QdQh. Dave is to my right in the BB. I limp. Young, aggressive guy limps in seat one (I’m sitting in seat 8. Seat two raises to 12. We’re actually playing like 7 handed at this point. LP and SB call, Dave folds, and I have a decision. Usually, I’d reraise big here. But, the raiser and the limper have both played aggressively after the flop, too, so I decide to risk it. I smooth call. Aggressive guy calls also, and we see the flop five ways for 12.
Flop Jh 7h 4s. I check, aggressive guy bets 15, preflop raiser thinks and folds. LP calls, SB calls. Ok, so now we’ve got a pot of over 100 and it’s 15 to me with an overpair. I’m sitting on about 400 but effective stacks vary, with only SB being close to me. Neither the aggressive guy or LP has more than 300. I think, and then raise to 115, which is almost a pot bet and pretty clearly commits me to the pot. Aggressive guy thinks for a long time and then folds. Then, LP thinks for a long time and stove tops me. Just stuffs it right in my face. SB actually thinks for a little while before folding. Ok, time for me to tank. It’s 139 to me. I’m getting over 3-1 to call with an overpair. He’s played his set really, really well, I guess. But, there are just too many semi-bluffs possible. I don’t think he could be going crazy with AJ. I ask him if he has pocket sevens, because if I’m absolutely sure he has a set, I may be able to lay it down. He almost imperceptibly nods, which means he doesn’t have it. And, he’s not a bad player, so I think he would have played it faster anyways. And, if I’m wrong, I’ve got runner runner hearts, right?
I call. He flips over A4hh, and I’m on the right side of a coinflip for a $600 pot. Both other players who folded apparently had flush draws, including the SB having a gutshot straight draw to go with it, so he’s got less outs. Brick/brick and I’m happy.
I think what’s interesting about this hand is that I could have played it so differently, some of which would have had better results, and some of which would have had worse. I have looked at it a little more in depth, but will take any reactions before I post a comment below.
Thoughts?
