My top 25 college football teams v. 5.0.

1. Texas Tech - Okie State is for real, and “we” made it look easy.   I am more and more confident, which is going to make any clunker that much more frustrating.

2. Alabama - I’ve been up and down on them.   We’ll see.

3. USC - Up and down here, too.   This ranking thing is hard.

4. UF - I’ve been looking more and more at them, and as well as they’ve played recently, I’m starting to think they have a loss left in them.   You’ll see later that South Carolina makes the list this week, a team I’ve been kinda ignoring.    If UF can win going away this week, UF will probably jump at least one spot.

5. UT - I would not want to be whoever they play in a bowl.   I would, OTOH, not mind being Mizzou and getting another shot at them on December 6 if it worked out that way.

6. OU - I heard this week that Stoops is 60-2 in Norman since taking over.   60-3 is pretty damn good.  :)

7. Boise State - They still have to get a couple more W’s, but they are for real.

8. Oregon State - Ummmm, what?   I think I’d be kicked out of any poll where I had to submit my vote, but I also think my rankings are the best EVAHHHH.   Going simply by last week’s rankings gets so complicated as to make it flat out wrong.

9. Mizzou - I have to believe they’re dying to upset whoever comes out of the South at Arrowhead.

10. Penn State - I’m glad they lost.   I hope they don’t go up against USC in the Rose Bowl, because then JoePa’s last game would be a ridiculous loss.

11. UGa. - Such a weird team.

12. South Carolina - debuting a team at 12.   Awesome.   And, if they get crushed by UF, they’ll fall right back out.   People talk about Ball State being overrated, but once you get past the top half dozen or so, almost any team could beat any other.

13. Ohio State - I wish Tressel would go crazy.

14. Tulsa

15. Cincy

16. Michigan State - I would love to see Michigan State versus Cincinnati.

17. Utah - Not that freakin’ good.   If they win out and go to a BCS bowl, I think they’ll get beat (severity depends on who they draw).   This team is definitely not as good as the last BCS Utah team.

18. Pitt

19. TCU

20. Florida State

21. Ball State - I’ve been on their bandwagon.   They’re good.   But, they start slow every week, and it’s almost definitely going to catch up with them against…

22. CMU - or…

23. WMU

24. Oregon

25. Cal - see, here’s what I’m talking about.   Any Cal fan would go apeshit here.   We both have two losses, and we just beat Oregon last week.   blahfuckingblah.

LOL.   See you next week.

Best picks for the 11/7 weekend (and a bonus 11/6 pick).

UGa. -10.5 @ UK

SDS +36.5 @ BYU

Rice -11 v. Army

Tennessee -27 v. Wyoming

‘Bama -3 @ LSU

Arizona -41 @ WSU

UNM -3.5 @ UNLV

JAX -6.5 @ DET

NE -3 @ BUF

STL +8 @ NYJ

Out of pocket.

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

No, I’m not out of pocket, literally.   I’ll just be “disconnected” for a few days.   So, I’m apologizing in advance for the additional lack of content coming your way this week.   I think “additional lack” is a great phrase.

My top 25 college football teams. v.4.0

Guns Up!  And, the twists begin.   I still think UT is the class of the Big 12, they just ran into the “perfect storm” Saturday.   The other team that impressed the heck out of me was Florida.   I don’t know if anyone will be able to hang with them if they keep it together.   The list:

1. Alabama - If they run the table, including UF in the SEC championship, they should just be named NC, although I think the championship game would be a formality against most teams anyways.

2. Florida - Wow.   They may slip up again, but I don’t think so.  If I had to bet a team right now, it’d be hard to bet against the Gators.   Most of the things in their way are things they can’t control.

3. USC - Up again, although a win over UW shouldn’t mean much.   USC just tends to play to their opponent.   I do think they’re going to show something against Cal.

4. Texas Tech - 9-0 is awesome, but I’m wary.   I don’t think I’d be so conflicted if it wasn’t my alma mater.

5. Penn St. - Iowa is no cupcake and Michigan State gets two weeks to prepare.   I would much rather see them lose a close one and then send JoePa out on a winning note than get to the NC game and get killed.

6. Texas - As I said above, it was the perfect storm - 4th tough one in a row, against a Tech team and Lubbock crowd that came out fire hot.   And, Texas still almost won.

7. Oklahoma State - Wow.  I’m so confident and scared at the same time.

8. OU - I still don’t know about that D.   I don’t think they can beat both OSU and Tech, although they’ll probably be favored in both.

9. TCU - They kinda get screwed having to go to Utah this Thursday, but I “think” they’ll show a little something.   They’re much better than they were six weeks ago, which is the sign of good coaching.

10. Boise State - Handled business again.   They just keep doing it.

11. West Virginia - A team this flawed at #11 shows how crazy college football is this year.

12. Cal - won in bad conditions against Oregon, so they move up and Oregon moves out - for a week, anyways.

13. Utah - lackluster performance, but UNM is a tough one.   We’ll definitely find something out on Thursday.

14. Mizzou - Wow.  That would suck for the Big 12.   Mizzou pulls a shocker in the Big 12 championship.    Arrowhead stadium in December.

15. LSU - They’ll be in a crazed state for Saban on Saturday, but I don’t think they have the weapons to back it up.   And, starting in the afternoon might not give the fans enough time to drink enough to make a difference.

16. Ball State - NIU on Wednesday is must - see TV for me.

17. Georgia - UGa. isn’t that bad.

18. Michigan State - still a player.

19. Ohio State - I’m already regretting having them this low.   They probably deserve better, but I keep seeing Pryor throw that dumb pass at the end of the game, and all the ugliness that led up to it.

20. Georgia Tech - to do what they’ve done despite their injuries…they’ll be the pride of Atlanta next year (ok, maybe not, but they’ll be darn good).

21. Pitt - LeSean McCoy is the real deal, in case you were wondering.

22. Maryland - ummm, I don’t know.

23. Cincy - if they can hang on to Brian Kelly, this will be the Big East team making noise next year.   I moved them out last week after a late blowup at UConn, but they’re pretty darn good, and young.

24. Tulsa - I wasn’t at all surprised to see them lose to Arkansas.   They’re still pretty good.

25. Notre Dame - the best three loss team in the country!

9-0 feels pretty damn good.
