I played at PH for the first time last night. Didn’t stay around long, but long enough to misplay a hand I thought worth sharing.
I’m in the SB, there’s an old-man straddle, and the next guy (a middle-aged gambly guy) raises to 5, obviously missing that there was a straddle. So, it’s a call. Folds to me, I call the 4 with K4ss, and the BB calls. Flop is Q32 with two spades. I check, straddle bets 5, MAGG calls, I check/raise to 25. BB folds, straddler folds, MAGG calls. I am pretty sure at this point that he’s got something real close to 66. Qc on the turn. I check. This is dumb. All of the sudden I’m going to put him on a Q and either call behind or go for a second check/raise? MAGG says I’m checking four queens and checks behind. Now, especially with his comment and the weak vibe, I’m clearly betting any river, and in my head I decide to bet 40 no matter what. River Ts. I bet 40 and he folds, and we have a good laugh. My turn play is bad, but my plan and river bet is inexcusable. If I know he’s weak, and am willing to go broke here even if he all of the sudden shows strength, why am I betting so much? It makes no sense. Bet 10 or 20, and he may call just out of curiosity. Bet 40 only if I miss. Dumb.
Then, i went down to Bally’s and got in all in with KK against KK and AA. Awesome. Not a good night, but I’m committed to running really good this weekend.
