The show is over. The last episode, fairly predictably, was quite anticlimactic.

The foursome won about 660k. 400k of that was Krantz, and almost all of that was one session. Brian, seemingly the best player, only won about 7500. Emil was the most consistent, which makes him the most enviable in my book. He won about 150k. And, last but not least, Dani won about 100k. And, he got a pair of $2k Nikes. So, that’s nice.

I don’t know if this show will come back in the future, but I hope it does.

I’m not going to write something about EVERY team this week. A whole lot of teams SUCK.

1. Alabama - The only sure thing.

2. Florida - They jump UT this week.

3. UT

4. Boise State

5. USC

6. Miami

7. Cincy

8. Oregon - USC on Halloween looming.

9. TCU - Biggest game of the week, and nobody will see it on Versus.

10. Iowa

11. Penn. St. - I put them here, but don’t be surprised if UM upsets them.

12. Pitt

13. Utah

14. BYU

15. GT

16. VT

17. Ohio State - Fire Tressel.

18. OU - Three losses. I don’t care.

19. Miss.

20. UH

21. Ok. State

22. Arizona

23. S. Car.

24. LSU

25. USF

Other: WV, TTU, ND, CMU

Ok, so not only did I not write about everyone. I hardly wrote about anyone. I’m tired. See ya’.

Winstar

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

I made a trip up there tonight for some 1/2 nlhe. Good times.

Some hands:

7dtd in the BB. Limped. Flop 9d8d3c. I bet 10. Three callers. Not good. I would really like a 6. Turn 9c. I check, checks around. River Qh. I bet 30, they all fold. Always nice to bluff into three players on the river.

QQ on the button. utg raises to 5, which he has done before. Couple callers, cutoff makes it 30. I shove 79, folds to cutoff who calls with AQo, QQ holds, I double.

KK early, I limp, a few more limpers, flop AT3 rainbow. I check fold to a bet of 15.

QJs early, I limp, a few more limpers, flop TJQ rainbow. BB bets 40. I think and muck. All fold. He shows K9.

That’s really it. I bought in for 100 on two different tables, played about two hours total. Won a total of 108. I like playing live.

I played with a guy who I recognized from Vegas, although he’s clearly from the Dallas area. That was interesting.

I also played with Mr. Annoying. Talked about every fucking hand. Talked about winning 17k with 85s in a 2/5 game. Ummmm, ok. Also talked about winning even more with A6o on a Bad Beat Jackpot. I didn’t care for him.

Monday thoughts.

PAD the next couple of weeks is cash game replays. Worth checking out.

I’m going to Winstar tomorrow, and will post about it.

I’ve also got posts about compulsion, my new college football top 25, and the continuation of my Hellmuth post coming this week.

Also, check out my weekend football recap on tiltstout Wednesday.

See ya.

Hellmuth.

I’m posting this as a ‘bookmark’. I watched the PAD from a couple weeks ago where he was featured. I need to figure out what I want to say, but there is a post coming.

I just watched the two most recent episodes. Both good.

Lockdown was fun. 36 hours, no leaving the war room, Jay runs bad, really good, REALLY bad, then REALLY FUCKING good (after picking up a tell).

The live game was good. Seeing ElKy, viffer, good2cu, and, of course, David Williams.

The trip to the supermercado was good, too. Seeing them restock the tilt room.

With one week left, I realize I’ll miss this show. I am looking forward to next week’s episode.

1. Alabama - They are the best team to this point, hands down.

2. UT - Talk all the shit you want about that first half. Scoreboard.

3. UF - They went in to a tough atmosphere and got a win, but that game was ugly.

4. Va. Tech - I guarantee nobody wants to play these dudes, including ‘Bama, who already beat them.

5. Boise St. - They had a week off, and managed to move up a spot.

6. Ohio St. - Will they play this well when they get into another ‘big’ game?

7. USC - They had a week off, and managed to move up three spots. Way to go, Trojans!

8. Miami - They beat FAMU handily and got jumped. WTF?

9. Cincy - They had a week off, and got double jumped. WTF?

10. Nebraska - Yes, it was ugly, also. But, they did what they needed to do.

11. Oregon - Rollin’. USC on Halloween?

12. Iowa - Solid.

13. TCU - Great article in SI last week. Not so great of a game, but @ AF is tougher than you might think.

14. Penn St. - You think JoePa is giggling at Bowden? Probably not, but it’s a funny thought.

15. S. Carolina - Too close, but again, it’s a win.

16. USF - Their game against Cincy on Thursday is must see in my book.

17. Pitt - Nice comeback. If they had beaten NCSU, they’d be higher. LDO.

18. WV - That loss to Auburn not a good loss now.

19. Utah - Only loss is to Oregon. Still. Yep, hasn’t changed.

20. LSU - Yeah, yeah, Florida is good. So is LSU. Just not THAT good.

21. KU - A 5 point win against the Cyclones doesn’t impress me. Will they beat CU before having to play OU?

22. Okie St. - WTF, Dez?

23. OU - They make their debut. UT weekend should be fun. Anyone got an extra ticket?

24. Arkansas - Inconsistent. Will they ride the up wave further, all the way to an upset in the Swamp?

25. Notre Dame - A week off, and they’re in. I just wish Floyd wasn’t hurt.

Other: BYU, Idaho, SMU, Auburn, GT, Tulsa, UH, and CMU.

Yes, my 5th place team from last week (Auburn) is now an other. I waited until October to avoid craziness, but it’s unavoidable.

Hey.

Only one post this past week. I guess working takes away from my bullshitting. Surprise.

I made my return to live poker this week. I really miss live poker. You can hear Tom and I talk about the quick trip we made to Winstar on the most recent thejimshow, episode 13, on bigstackradio.

The Red Sox got swept, including a choke job today that made me sick. I didn’t expect them to come back from 0-2, but I started to hope late in the game today, setting myself up for the cockpunch.

Ok, I’m going to do my top 25 now, and I’ll post at least once more this week. Every day would be nice, but I’ve got a busy week, so we’ll see.

My first college top 25 of 2009.

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

Yep, it’s that time. I may mention past results, or look ahead to future games, but this is the list of the best teams today.

1. Alabama - They’re one of two teams that I liked last year for this year that I backed off of preseason. I shouldn’t have. They’re the real deal. Tough test this Saturday, and I doubt they make it all year unbeaten, but they’re the best team today, in my eyes.

2. UT - They’ll also have a tough time running the table, but anyone who doubts how good they are is being silly.

3. UF - Tebow is having to do more this year, and his concussion is just a symptom.

4. Va. Tech - Yes, they lost to Alabama. Still, they’re much better than I thought they would be and in the ACC they have a much easier road than the teams from the SEC or Big 12.

5. Auburn - Malzahn will be a Head Coach next year, and thanks to him, so will Chizik.

6. Boise State - That Oregon win is looking better. They are very good.

7. Cincy - Yep. I’d love to see Brian Kelly stay here, but we’ll see.

8. Miami - If you had asked their fan base if a 3-1 start would be ok, they would have been very happy.

9. LSU - Almost lost to Mississippi State, but they have the team to win every week as long as they want to.

10. USC - Not as good as past years, but getting better.

11. Ohio State - If Tressel would be more aggressive, they’d be top 5. Take some notes from Mack Brown and loosen up.

12. Nebraska - Lost in a close one to VT, but they’re the class of the Big 12 North.

13. WV - Noel Devine is fast.

14. KU - I think they’re pretty good, but I won’t know for sure for a few more weeks.

15. S. Carolina - Almost beat UGa., beat Ole Miss.

16. TCU - Won the Iron Skillet.

17. Mississippi - They can move up with an impressive game against ‘Bama.

18. Oregon - I think they were too jacked up for Boise. Some impressive wins since.

19. USF - I thought they were done when Grothe went down. But, not yet.

20. Iowa - They look really bad at times, but solid others.

21. Penn State - I’m already looking forward to 11/7.

22. Oklahoma State - Dangerous and now flying under the radar a bit.

23. Wisconsin - They look really bad at times, but solid others. I guess it’s a Big Ten thing.

24. Utah - Lost to Oregon. They may be the class of the Mountain. Maybe I’ll go to the game in FW.

25. Stanford - Narrowly lost to Wake, on a supposedly bogus call. Would be undefeated otherwise.

Others: Mizzou just hasn’t proved it yet. OU is good but no two loss teams on my list. Notre Dame is driving me nuts. SMU should have beaten Wazzu.

Ok, that’s it, kids. I hope you’ve enjoyed it.

Dallas! Stars!

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

As mentioned previously, I was not that into the college games yesterday. So, mid-afternoon, Heather and I decided to go to the Stars game last night. We checked the Stars’ website, stubhub, craigslist, and other ticket sources. We settled on a deal for 2 platinum level seats, which came with food vouchers and a platinum parking pass. Good deal.

The Stars were both fun to watch and frustrating. After going down 1-0 less than 2 minutes into the game (NAS pp due to a penalty 1 minute into it), the Stars were active. NAS struck again, however, going up 2-0. Sucks. DAL came back on two goals by Neal, both of which were pretty. The first one may be the best goal I’ve seen live. Neal actually shot it while falling down.

OT was stressful, and losing in a shootout seemed anticlimactic.

Impressions:
-Marty should have stopped both goals he let by him.
-We lost the faceoff battle at home, which is never good.
-We seemed to play on their end a bunch, but there weren’t as many “good” scoring chances as I would have liked. It seemed Ellis was in position all the time, and both our goals were off rebounds.
-On our end, we spent too much time collapsed down, but I guess it worked.
-Our PP just HAS to be better. At one point, we had 3 straight minutes, including a full minute of 5-3. We have to get more good shots off.
-They beat us 2-1 in SO goals. That number seems low to me.
-I love hockey.
