The Day of Love (it was a college thing; you wouldn’t understand).
Jeff got in last night. We hit up In-N-Out and then headed to the Rio. Tom and Richard played a satellite. Tom went out when he flopped a straight and got it all-in against top pair. Runner runner boat and Tom goes home.
I think we’re going to hang out away from poker today, but we’ll see.
I’m running out of writing as I’m running out of time.
Small win today, flopped a set blahblahblah, lost it on the Red Wings.

2 quick sessions today, but not one hand of note. I did 3 barrel bluff a hand, which I don’t usually do. Not a good day, but it would have been worse if Mr. Nit had hung on one more time.
Richard got here. We picked him up and went to Buca, which was good. We’ll probably go sweat him at some point tomorrow in the plhe event.
I’m thinking of throwing my whole bankroll down on the Red Wings tomorrow, so if you like money, bet the Pens.
I’ve played a lot over the weekend. I have had about 46 thoughts that for posts. Yet, I haven’t made any.
I will say this. Yesterday, after playing elsewhere, I walked into the Mirage feeling pretty confident/good. I had figured out the game (for the 1407th time) and couldn’t be beaten. Then, I played a hand well and suffered a bad beat. I immediately went to “what did I do wrong?”; nothing, shit, bad beats happen. A couple hours later, I’m still suffering and wondering if I’ll ever have another winning session again. One fucking hand. lol.
I’ll try to remember some interesting hands tomorrow, kids.
2 side notes:
1. “The Hangover” was as good as expected. Very funny.
2. I don’t like the Lakers and I hate the Red Wings. Assuming they both finish off their respective series, I’ll probably head to the sportsbook and put a bet down on the Yankees to win it all this Fall. Puke.
Picked up Tom at the airport, and then got some Chicken Bryan at Carraba’s. Good as always. I had a few beers, too. Thanks for losing at CCR, Tom (ok, jk, thanks for paying).
Went to the M to stay close and play a short session, anticipating a lot of poker for the next few days.
I played excellently, if I do say so myself. Unfortunately, my best move of the night, semi-bluffing with the nut flush draw on a J high bullshit board into a multi-way raised preflop pot, in position, didn’t work out because my shitty opponent couldn’t let KJ go and I missed twice. I only ended up down 18, so that pot was the difference maker in my mind.

I’ve played on ftp the last couple months, mostly razz and super turbo sngs. After running bad for like three days, I decided it was time to go back to Stars for awhile. As much as I love razz, Triple Draw 2-7 will probably always be my favorite game. It’s just so easy to see what mistakes other people are making. It’s a crazy swingy game, which can be frustrating, but also pretty rewarding when everything you’re seeing and doing is working.
Ok, that’s it. Just thought I needed to make a post today.
btw, Ivey won his 6th bracelet tonight, in Single Draw 2-7. It won’t be televised, but it should be. If there’s one game I think would/does make better tv than nlhe, it’s nl27.
Now that I’m 8 beers deep and done on stars, I’ll post some more.
I like sitting down at a new table. People generally play tighter at a new table. There are no really deep stacks. You’re all getting a read on each other at the same time, instead of trying to get a read on the table when everyone else can kinda concentrate on you. I go to the Venetian tonight, and sign up on the 1/2 list. A piss and a smoke later, and they start a new table, calling all names up to me. A few minutes later, they call me, and I get on the new table as we’re all still cashing in. Nice. Very first hand. I’m in LP. utg+1 raises to 10, two middle position callers, I call with 99. Folds. So, 4 to the flop and I’ve got position. Flop 965 all clubs. Raiser checks, which means no overpair, and probably no club draw. First MP bets 20, other MP folds, I raise to 100. Raiser folds, bettor calls. I don’t think he flopped the straight or flush. Turn 10h. He checks, I go all-in, he calls. River Jc. I pull out my wallet and $200 more as I flip my cards. He flips 55 for set over set, and I double up. Nice.
Second hand, about an hour later. I limp on the button with JTo. No raises from the blinds. Flop KQ9 rainbow. Wheeee. EP bets 10 and gets 3 callers. Against one or two, I’d just call, but with 4 I raise to 45. Folds to the last caller, who ships for his stack. I call. He has K3 (???), no runner runner.
Third hand. I check 99 in the bb. Flop 974 two hearts. I bet 10. LMP raises to 22, and gets a call. A lot of times with a hand I’m willing to go broke with, I act before thinking. This time, I figure I’m up against one hand that is willing to go with me (either another set, an overpair somehow, or a combo draw). I take my time, and then raise to 122. Raiser instafolds, and caller instaships saying let’s gamble. I call. Sure enough. He has JThh, so 11 outs (I have the 9h). My set holds up.
There are a few reasons I don’t have the huge wins I want. I don’t play a volatile enough style, even after I have chipped up. I win another pot, and then fold 33 to a raise to 10 from another decent stack. I realize I’m playing too tight, and rack up and leave.
I’m not as long-winded as I once was. I realized this in my class. I just don’t elaborate like I used to. Oh, well. That’s it for tonight. TommyTwoToes coming in Friday. Hijinks will be posted here.
I wouldn’t call it running like God, but I did run good tonight. 533 to the good, so eclipsed my biggest win I was whining about last night. I will probably post some of the hands tomorrow and maybe some other thoughts. Right now I’m busy drinking and playing micro limit TD27. Stopped by BW3 on the way home and between comped beers and video BJ win, had free dinner. Every night in the life of a 1/2 grinder should be like this.
After a bad morning online, I went to play some brick and mortar 1/2. Within a half an hour at the Venetian, I had won three small to decent pots and was up about 150. Nice. In the next hour and a half, I gave 36 of that back. Table worse and hungry, I cash out. Grab a slice of pizza and head over to the Mirage. I realize I’m tired. So, I watch the 2nd period of the hockey game and get my second wind. A couple hours at the Mirage, I tread water and end up down 40. Back to the Venetian, and I make 4 whole dollars in half an hour at one of the worst tables in the history of poker. Okay, I go home now. A little less than 6 hours of play, and I end up 78 dollars to the good. I should be happy. That’s about 14/hour. I should at least be content. But, no, I’m not. My biggest win since I started tracking my play is $467. I just want one time to sit down and run like God. A sick heater. A mountain of chips. One time. Soon, please.
No interesting hands to discuss, either. Maybe tomorrow.
Sometimes I wonder if I’m playing badly when I lose money. But, right now, I am DEFINITELY running bad. This sucks.
